These red pine were planted 22 years ago on hard packed gravel. This was Williams Landing, where trucks dumped pulpwood into Moosehead Lake to be towed down the lake and floated to the mill on the Kennebec River. This old clearcut was weeded, thinned and is now a sea of healthy, vigorously growing young softwood.
